Holiday home on a working organic farm in Closeburn
Willow Cottage occupies a historic building with parquet floors and offers a private entrance with garden views. The two-bedroom house includes a cosy living room and access to a tennis court on the property. Free on-site private parking and bicycle parking are available for guests.
The cottage sits on Gilchristland Organic Farm, a working farm where guests wake to sheep grazing outside the window. The farm has hens, lambs during lambing season, and resident swallows and barn owls. The area is a designated dark sky location, offering clear night views of stars without light pollution.
Breakfast is served directly in the cottage room, with local specialities including warm dishes, homemade bread rolls, fresh eggs from the farm hens, and homemade gooseberry jam. Guests can request cereal for children and the host delivers at a chosen time. The eggs are noted for their yellow yolks and strong flavour.
Drumlanrig Castle is 14 km from the cottage, with Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club and Caerlaverock Castle also within driving distance. Glasgow Prestwick Airport is 79 km away. The quiet countryside offers local walks to Loch Ettrick and other trails.
Children can help collect eggs from the hens and feed the sheep during their stay. The cottage provides board games, puzzles, and books for indoor entertainment. A tennis court on the farm gives families an additional outdoor activity option.
“This cottage truly captures a sense of place, offering a warm, comfortable retreat set against a backdrop of stunning countryside and the quiet hum of a working farm. The genuine hospitality of the hosts is evident, making it an especially welcoming spot to unwind. It's a place that encourages a return visit, feeling both familiar and refreshingly tranquil.”
