Shepherd's hut in Herefordshire with countryside views and homemade apple juice
Maddoc's Hut is a one-bedroom shepherd's hut with a bathroom and a kitchenette. The property offers parquet floors, a stovetop, toaster, and refrigerator for self-catering. Guests consistently rate the bed comfort highly, with many mentioning a great night's sleep.
The hut provides air conditioning, a log fire, and hot water bottles for temperature control. Outdoor furniture and a fire pit with two deck chairs allow for stargazing on clear nights. The shower has good water pressure, though guests over 6 ft may find it tight.
Located 13 km from Wilton Castle and 21 km from Puzzlewood, with Hereford Cathedral and St Briavel's Castle within driving distance. The property is very dark at night, ideal for stargazing with no nearby light pollution. Guests reported beautiful views and a peaceful, quiet remote setting.
Hosts Katie and Hal provide homemade apple juice and fresh milk, with marmalade also offered on occasion. A property manual with induction hob instructions is provided, and guests are met at the farmhouse and helped with bags. Firewood for the log burner is available, and the complementary apple juice is frequently praised as a standout touch.
“This shepherd's hut truly captures the essence of a peaceful rural escape, with its cosy interior warmed by a log fire even during freezing January nights. The countryside views are a constant, tranquil companion, and the thoughtful touches, like the fresh local apple juice, elevate the stay beyond the ordinary. You'll find everything you need for a quiet break, from a surprisingly robust shower to a bed that promises deep, comfortable rest.”
